My name is Pablo Wilkinson and I am a farmer. After graduating with a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Victoria I was unsure of what I wanted to do. I had a passion for growing vegetables which I would do every summer on breaks from school. Growing up food was always important to my family. My grandparents, Hazel and Jack, grew amazing fruits and vegetables. They gave me an early appreciation of how food is grown and the taste of fresh out of the garden produce. Around the dinner table my family would often discuss food policy and how industrial farming and shipping food from far away was unsustainable. I decided I wanted to try my hand at farming. In 2013 I was fortunate to be accepted as an intern at Drumlin Farm – a certified organic vegetable and chicken farm in Ontario owned by Gerry and Sue Stephenson. There I learned many aspects of organic farming and I found it very rewarding. In 2014, I was lucky to find land and accommodation to rent on a 27-acre farm in Abbotsford. The owner, Nicky Muir, has been farming there for the last 40 years and continues to raise cattle, sheep, pigs and laying hens. She had been very accommodating and I had the chance to learn a lot about farming from her. With the help of my wife Karla, we started Little by Little Farms (previously Pablo’s Produce) in 2016 with the goal to grow and sell a diverse selection of fresh vegetables. Although we are not certified organic, we only use sustainable growing techniques and we do not use chemical pesticides or fertilizers. I hope you enjoy our produce!
