Japanese Onigiri Snacks

Recipe

Prep Time: 5 minutes

Cook Time: 5 minutes

Serving Size: 6 onigiri

Ingredients:

3 cups organic sushi rice cooked – Western Rice Mills

50 grams furikake (rice seasoning)

Water

Himalayan pink salt – Avafina Organics

Nori sheets (cut into small rectangles)

Directions:

STEP 1

Mix the cooked sushi rice with the furikake seasoning using a rice paddle.

STEP 2

Divide rice into large, equal portions. Each piece should be about the size of one large handful.

STEP 3

Wet your hands with water and rub together with a pinch or two of salt. This will keep the rice from sticking to your fingers while also keeping it fresher for longer.

STEP 4

Press and squeeze the rice into a triangular shape rotating it as you go so that it’s even. Now place a slice of nori on the bottom of the onigiri with the rough side facing the rice. Then fold it upwards toward the middle of the onigiri. Repeat this step for the remaining rice portions.

STEP 5

Arrange on a plate and enjoy!

Recipe Notes:

You might think that this recipe is just much too simple, but it’s a great start to learning how to make delicious sushi at home. We recommend you cook the rice in a rice cooker and be sure that the rice is warm when making your onigiri. It will stick better together and make it easier to form the traditional triangular shape. When you’ve had your fill, you can store the onigiri by wrapping it in plastic wrap then place it in an airtight container. Also, add the nori when you’re ready to eat; otherwise, you’ll end up with a soggy onigiri! We hope you enjoy this simple recipe, and if you have any filling ideas, let us know!
